Keep Your Belongings Safe With Renters Insurance

Renters Insurance is a necessity for anyone renting or subletting a home or apartment. A renter’s insurance policy protects your personal property, valuables and assets against many types of accidents or disasters. Without insurance you’re vulnerable to loss, so complete coverage can give you the peace of mind needed should a loss or damage take place.

The following coverage options are typically included in The Church Agency’s standard policy:

  1. Personal property coverage: Protects your possessions from theft, vandalism, water damage, etc. If your belongings are stolen or damaged, you can file a claim to get reimbursed for the loss.
  2. Personal liability coverage: Provides coverage protection for you and any visitors to your rental property. If a guest is injured on your property, renters insurance will pay for the medical expenses and any judgments against you if a lawsuit ensues. Your legal fees will also be covered.
  3. Loss of use pays for additional living expenses, such as food and housing, if you must temporarily move from your home or apartment because of a covered loss.  Loss of use coverage is generally limited to 20 percent of a policy’s personal property coverage.

Some people mistakenly think that their landlord’s insurance will cover their property but they are totally wrong. Their landlord’s insurance will cover the building structure itself, not the tenant’s personal belongings.

REVIEW YOUR HOMEOWNER’S POLICY REGARDING COVERAGE FOR SPECIAL VEHICLES

Millions of Americans own special vehicles for recreation, personal assistance, property maintenance, and for other purposes. Residents and visitors in Snow Belt regions use snowmobiles. Golf carts cruise around golf courses and around many residential communities. Individuals with limited mobility use motorized wheelchairs and scooters. All-terrain vehicles and dune buggies are always popular. These vehicles can be expensive to purchase and can become involved in accidents. Individuals who own and use them need insurance protection when something goes wrong. Fortunately, the standard Homeowners insurance policy provides some of the coverage users need.

The Homeowners Policy does not cover legal liability resulting from the use of motor vehicles that are registered for use on public roads or property or that the law requires to be registered for use at the place where the accident took place. However, it does provide some coverage for vehicles designed to be used off public roads if either the user does not own them or if the accident occurs on an insured location, as the policy defines that term. The term includes the place where the person named on the policy (the named insured) resides, other residences he acquires during the policy term, premises he doesn’t own and where he temporarily resides, vacant land he owns or rents, land he owns or rents where he is building a residence, and other premises he occasionally rents for non-business use.

Therefore, the Homeowners policy will cover him for liability resulting from the use of:

  • A motorized wheelchair at his home and surrounding property
  • A dune buggy at a beach house he’s renting for a week
  • A snowmobile he owns on vacant land he owns
  • An ATV he rents while he uses it on someone else property.

It will not cover him if he takes a vehicle he owns off an insured location.

The policy covers certain vehicles if the insured person uses them solely to service his premises. For example, he would have coverage for a riding lawn mower that he uses on his own property, but he will not have coverage for it if he also uses it to cut a neighbor’s grass. The policy covers vehicles designed to assist the handicapped, but only while they are being used to assist a handicapped person or while they are parked on an insured location. A healthy 15 year-old who takes a handicapped person’s scooter for a joy ride does not have coverage.

The agents at The Church Agency Inc can find a Homeowners Insurance policy in Ohio that covers your home from all disasters, including storm damage, vandalism, and personal injury.

Residents Keep Watchful Eyes on Flooded Areas

The Church Agency

Flooding and high water remains a concern in parts of Ohio.

Drivers are making their way through flooded roadways including Old Oxford State Road. The road has been covered with water for several days. The high water has been surrounding houses and a church that have been in the area for the past 20 years. Sandbags are being used to keep the water out.

Experts told ONN that the ground is so saturated; it could lead to severe flooding this spring. According to the National Weather Service the Greater Cincinnati area has seen nearly 70 inches of rain in 2011 which makes it the wettest year on record.

A Flood Insurance Policy can help protect the most valuable asset you own: your home or your business. Make sure you don’t end up taking a bath in the event that your home sustains damage.

Don’t Let Your Dreams Get Washed Away!

People do not expect floods and can be unprepared to them and other natural disasters. Flash floods are the most unpredictable and can strike in any area, whether you are in a flood zone or not. Don’t get caught of guard with flood damages!

Different types of Ohio Flood Insurance policies are available based on your property’s location and flood history. Here are different types of Flood Insurance that are available:

Standard Flood Insurance Policies

If you live in a community that participates in the National Flood Insurance Program (NFIP), your building and its contents can be covered by standard flood insurance. Ohio residents should be aware that the NFIP was established by the Federal Government to help communities who “voluntarily participate in the NFIP by adopting and enforcing floodplain management ordinances to reduce future flood damage.” To be considered a flood, the waters must cover at least two acres or affect at least two properties. You must apply for building coverage and contents coverage separately if you choose to invest in a standard flood insurance policy.

Preferred Risk Flood Insurance Policies

If your home or business is in a low or moderate risk zone, your building may qualify for a low-cost preferred risk policy. While you aren’t required to purchase flood insurance, Ohio residents in low-to-moderate risk areas, should consider a preferred risk policy which will protect your home and its contents if you are affected by a small flood or a larger flood that has extended into your low-risk area. In truth, many flood insurance claims occur in low-to-moderate risk areas.

Don’t wait until it starts raining to buy Flood Insurance! Contact The Church Agency, Inc today for a free Flood Insurance quote.

POLICY DEDUCTIBLE INCREASES: THE SAFER WAY TO SAVE PREMIUM DOLLAR

The Church AgencyMoney is still tight for many Americans, meaning most are still looking to save when and where they can. Some people have even turned to their insurance policies as a place to cut costs. Insurance can be expensive, but consumers need to ask themselves where and how they can really save money in this area without jeopardizing the protections offered by their coverage.

Two typical places that many insured individuals think they can cut the cost of their premiums are from reducing the dwelling/liability limits on their Homeowners policy and reducing the liability limits on their Auto insurance policy.

In reality, cutting the liability limits on these policies leaves you highly vulnerable to risk and will not ultimately save you any money over the long run. Although you might save a few dollars now with such tactics, it really isn’t worth it when you stop to think about just how much you could lose if you were sued after someone was injured in your home.

If you want to decrease your premiums, a much more prudent way to do it is by increasing the deductibles in your auto and/or home policies. A deductible increase from $250 to $500 could save you up to 15% on your Homeowners insurance premiums. You can save 30% or more on your premiums by raising the physical damage deductible on your Auto insurance policy to $500 or $1,000 dollars.

Some consumers get nervous about not having the $500 to cover their newly raised deductible should they need to file a claim. Since the situation doesn’t involve thousands of dollars in difference, it’s likely to be just as difficult for most people to come up with $500 as it would be $250. The only difference will be that the extra premium savings can be saved and set aside to cover the higher deductible from any future claims. In most cases, the additional $250 could be saved in less than 24 months.

If you’re nervous about taking the larger leap to a $1,000 deductible, then you can always take a slow and steady approach. You might increase your deductible to $500 first. You can open a savings account for the premium dollars you’ll save each month from having a slightly higher deductible. Although it might take some time, you can eventually raise your deductible to $1,000 when you have saved $500 to $750 dollars in the account.

Unlike lowering limits, deductible raises can save you money without placing you at a greater financial risk.

Is Your Boat Insured?

The Church AgencyYour boat is probably one of your most treasured and valuable possessions. Unfortunately, a boat can also be vulnerable – to accidents, storms, and theft. In addition to giving you peace of mind, boat insurance coverage provides protection for you, your passengers and your boat.

Boat insurance provides physical damage coverage to repair your boat if it’s accidentally damaged or destroyed by a covered peril such as collision, fire, theft, windstorm, lightning or vandalism. This coverage is broad, and provides coverage for the boat, including its machinery and auxiliary equipment, outboard motors, boat trailer and personal property.

The Most Common Optional Boat Insurance Coverage’s:-

  • Personal Property: Cell phones, cameras and even personal flotation devices are often considered personal property on a boat. If a boat owner wants coverage for any of these items and other personal property they will want to consider adding additional personal property coverage to their boat insurance policy.
  • Fishing Equipment: All boaters know that fishing equipment is expensive and personal. To make sure one’s fishing equipment is covered adequately a boat owner will want to add fishing equipment coverage.
  • Uninsured boater: Getting hit by a boater carries enough problems but the problems get even worse when the offending boater does not carry insurance
  • Replacement Cost Coverage: This coverage will give a boat owner the full replacement value of their boat if their boat becomes a covered total loss under their boat insurance policy. The usual time period to recover the full replacement cost amount is three years.

Because of the special risks involved with boating, our policies also provide compensation for medical expenses, if your passengers are injured in an accident that involves your vessel, and liability protection, in the event that you are sued.
